Thanks to everyone who caught our "standing room only" show, and danced along, at the Hill to Hill Grille! Check out our videos page to hear this recent addition to our song repertoire. "Judy in Disguise (with Glasses)", whose title and some of its lyrics parodied "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds", was a #1 hit in the US for John Fred & His Playboy Band in January 1968. Successful parody songs aren't unusual (just think of Weird Al Yankovic's many hits), but can you think of another chart-topping parody of some other song that was well-known despite it NOT BEING RELEASED AS A SINGLE? Nope, we can't either. That's how influential the Beatles were.
Quoting from songfacts.com: According to John Fred, John Lennon loved the song. Said Fred: "When I met John Lennon, that's the first thing he asked me. He thought it was great. He said the first thing he was going to do when he got home was write a song called 'Froggy in a Pond with Spectacles.'"
